Program

The school offers four branches, where within each branch 180 credits have to be got within three years. The credits are achieved with formation activity, scientific activity, and teaching activity.

Design of High Performance Materials
The branch in Design of High Performance Materials addresses the design and the employment of metals and non metallic materials, with particular reference to the automotive field. Great attention will be paid to on complex production processes, like titanium welding.
Paralleling this study, the possibility will be explored. to employ alternative materials, like polymers, in the circumstance that peculiar mechanical applications are addressed. The presence within the University campus of high level labs will allow a Doctor to be formed exhibiting superior experimental knowledge, which will parallel the technological and scientific sides. The local industries will certainly take advantage from this kind of interdisciplinary knowledge, and they will succeed in promoting and increasing their high know-how level. On the other side, the Doctor will get a fast integration within the industrial environment.

Modelling and Mechanical Design Methods
The branch regarding Modelling and Mechanical Design Methods aims at improving the basic knowledge in the principles of Mechanical Design especially in the fields of thermal-energetic problems and of technological-structural aspects, in full accord with the themes pertaining to the laboratory HiMech.
The School aims at forming a Doctor possessing specialised knowledge in the field of advanced mechanical design, being fully aware of the numerical, experimental, and analytical tools. This knowledge transfer to the Student will be made possible by the presence of research groups specialised in the above fields, and by the presence of high level experimental devices suitable for carrying out mechanical, thermal and structural measurements.
The presence of researchers who are experts in the field of functional equations and transformations will guarantee a level of excellence of the University environment. The final stimulus to the students will arrive from the close contact with the high standard industrial environment of which the Modena territory is endowed.

Vehicle Technology
The branch in Vehicle Technology is closely intertwined with the county laboratory HiMech, addressing the development of innovative solutions in the automotive field. Particular attention will be paid to the two main areas constituting the vehicle, namely the engine and the frame. Concerning the engine topic, the main research themes address the thermal and structural analysis of the mechanical components, where the interactions between the two aspects plays a major part.
Moving to the frame topic, the modelling of the frame deformability of the suspensions, and of the response of the frame to road undulations constitute topics of great interest for the School. Additional themes are dynamic problems, with particular regard to crash aspects.
The Engineering Faculty is directly involved in a series of technical-scientific enterprises with leading local industries, which have spurred the growth of an automotive tradition within the University. In fact, the student will have a chance to come into close contact with local automotive industries. As a result, the student will have a chance to become familiar with sophisticated software tools as well as with innovative analytical approaches. An additional stimulus comes from Formula Student active in Modena Faculty of Engineering, who took part to various editions of this competition with good results. The students may take part to the design of the next Formula Student car.

Private Right
This branch addresses the main aspects of private right pertaining to the society and economical environment of an enterprise.
The main topics will analyse the enterprise reality under the aspects of production, commercial, industrial, and financial interrelations. Aspects covered are those of the private right addressing shares, contracts, civil resposnability, and the enterprise commercial right, with particular regard to bank right, financial market, competitor right, and so on.
